We identify the correct specification three ways: the etched NFRC label in the glass corner (shows series, U-factor, and DP rating), the frame profile width measured with a digital caliper (EnergyVue is 3-1/4 inch; WinGuard vinyl is 3-1/2 inch; aluminum is 3-5/8 inch), and the existing fastener pattern on the exterior fin. PGT’s OEM installation kit includes color-matched screws and end-caps, but we also stock white and bronze aftermarket fasteners from C.R. Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing

• Visible gap between frame and stucco. Jupiter’s daily thermal cycling expands and contracts vinyl at a different rate than concrete block. When the original shim pack compresses or the fasteners back out, a 1/16-inch gap becomes a 3/8-inch crack within two hurricane seasons. We measure frame deflection with a 4-foot level; anything over 1/4 inch means the installation has lost structural integrity.
• Condensation between panes on impact-rated units. PGT’s WinGuard laminated glass uses a dual-seal system. If the installation allowed frame twist, the inner seal breaks and argon escapes. In Jupiter, we see this most on west-facing elevations where afternoon heat builds pressure inside the IGU. The glass is done; the installation must be corrected before the replacement unit goes in.
• Sash falls closed or won’t lock without lifting. This usually traces to sagging hinges or a twisted frame from improper shimming at the sill. PGT’s single-hung and horizontal roller sashes are balanced to 2 pounds of operating force; when the frame goes out of square, that balance shifts to the lock mechanism, which then wears prematurely.
• Water staining on the interior sill after a driving rain. The installation’s sill pan or flashing tape failed, or the weep holes were caulked over by a painter. PGT’s vinyl frames have two weep slots per jamb; blocking even one causes positive pressure that forces water past the sill seal. We document this with borescope photos of the rough opening.
• Exterior noise increase despite impact-rated glass. When installation compression on the weatherstrip relaxes, the acoustic seal degrades before the water seal does. Homeowners on Jupiter’s US-1 corridor or near the Florida Turnpike notice this first. The fix is reframing and recompression, not just new weatherstrip.
